The Moon is Such a Badass

I’ve always been fascinated by the Moon. But for most of my life, the only images I saw were in shades of grey—cold, distant, seemingly lifeless.

I loved her anyway, but she felt a little sad, flat, dead. Visually speaking, it was hard to connect this barren rock to the deep, ever-changing world of emotions she symbolically represents.

I’ve been wanting to create a Lunar Calendar to track the Moon phases for ages, but I kept resisting. Something about it didn’t feel creatively alive yet.

Then I stumbled upon a NASA photograph of the Moon taken in 1992. Unlike the usual monochrome images, this one was bursting with color—revealing ancient volcanic flows, mineral-rich craters, and explosive cosmic history.

My first thought was Wow! The Moon is such a badass!

She’s bold. She’s bright. She’s dark. She’s complex. She’s mysterious.
Now that’s a moon with personality!

Sure, it’s a false-color composite—a blend of 15 images processed to highlight different lunar materials, revealing the Moon in an explosion of unexpected hues: deep blues, fiery reds, and golden yellows.

But to me, this Moon felt more real than any I had ever seen. And at last, I felt artistically inspired to create my own Moon-tracking tool.

The Moon has always been important to me, but this moment was the spark that brought my Lunar Calendar to life.

And beyond aesthetics, the Moon is literally why we’re here. Without her, Earth would be erratic—it might not tilt at all (goodbye, seasons), or it might tilt too much, creating extreme, unlivable conditions. The Moon stabilizes our world, just as she stabilizes our inner world.

As a Cancer rising, she rules my chart, shaping my emotions, my mood. And as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), I feel the world intensely—just like the Moon, constantly shifting and reflecting different shades of feeling.

This calendar is my way of celebrating her rhythm—a creative, cyclical, and artistic tribute to the Moon’s transformative journey.

Here are a few pictures of my creative process while making this moon calendar.
